How to Unclog a Kitchen Sink Drain- Mid Suffolk Cesspool Services
Kitchen sink clogs are a pretty common occurrence, as far as plumbing issues go — however, it can be very annoying because it usually happens at the worst of times. But, while a clog can be aggravating, there are several easy ways to unclog the sink on your own. Read on to learn how to fix the problem before reaching out to the experts.

Use Boiling Water
Your kitchen sink takes in a lot of grease, soap, and other particles. Sometimes, these particles may not necessarily dissolve and will gather at the opening of the drain — leading to clogging. If this is the problem with your kitchen sink, then maybe your solution is straightforward. All you need is ½ to 1 gallon of boiling water. After boiling the water, let it cool slightly, but it should still be very, very hot. Pour the water directly into the drain, and see if that clears things up.
Use a Plunger
If the hot water trick didn’t work, you can try to plunge out the blockage. We suggest you use a clean plunger with a flat bottom. The process is quite simple;
- Fill your sink with hot water till it's halfway full. Be sure to seal the drain before filing it.
- Put your plunger across the drain. You have to ensure that the force of the plunger is at the drain itself.
- Continuously pump the plunger at the top of the drain for a while - more than five minutes is okay.
- After the first five minutes, you can check if the water goes down.
- If it doesn't, you can always try the process again.
Use Vinegar and Baking Soda
Vinegar and baking soda are common items we have in our homes, but they have many uses aside from being cooking items. One of the uses is to act as a dissolver. For this process, you may need rubber gloves, as it can get messy. Here’s what to do:
- Remove all water stuck in the drain with a bowl. You can put this water into a bucket.
- Take a cup of baking soda and pour it into your drain. Sometimes you may need to force the baking soda into the drain.
- When you're sure the baking soda is in the drain, the next thing is to add the vinegar to the mix. You may need to force the vinegar in as well.
- Wait for a couple of minutes and run water through the drain. If it is still clogged, you can use the boiling water technique again.
